Words Don’t Do It Justice: Breaking News

Words Don’t Do It Justice: Breaking News

Over the weekend we were very close to an amazing achievement. On Monday it was so tantalizingly close I was thinking of dropping a post just to help push it over after the Holidays Don’t Do It Justice post. But Tuesday Night after Posts from Ruminated Thoughts and of course from THE Ruthless Wonder reacting to the decision by the Darren Wilson Grand Jury, we hit a milestone that if I’m honest I didn’t expect until 2015. SO On Behalf of the Weekends Don’t Do It Justice Writers Reason, Kudo, Xion, and Lucremo. On Behalf of the Words Don’t Do It Justice Guest Read more »

In defense of Bill Simmons

In defense of Bill Simmons

I’m going to talk about sports, but only sort of. This really isn’t about sports as much as it is about the role of journalists in the age of digital media and social media. Bill Simmons got suspended this week for nothing more than doing what we will be getting back to doing here in October (WDDIJcast and The Wrath of Ruthless have been on vacation due to …well due to needing a production break honestly). He spoke his mind on his own podcast about the situation, and used the circumstantial evidence including the very public stature of the NFL to Read more »

Ruthless Grab Bag: Too much, too soon, too often

Ruthless Grab Bag: Too much, too soon, too often

One of the things that often comes up with my writing here on WDDIJ is a request to cover a particular topic. And usually I just don’t do it. In some cases what someone wants to cover I want to cover and so it for a moment interests are aligned and it works out. Oddly enough my silence on some particular matters has been due to an over abundance of work on outside projects. And my appearance on a Friday instead of my usual Monday is because we have two writers who are just straight up swamped. So everyone send positive Read more »

The FIFA Corruption: Part I

The FIFA Corruption: Part I

AND… We’re back!!!!  My sincerest apologies to my fellow writers, and of course my Commander-in-Chief Ruthless.  But my deepest apology goes to you; the readers!  I have deprived you of sports awesome, and I am truly sorry.  Assuming Ruthless does not execute me I promise to be more prompt and consistent in my posting.  However, first a quick word on a specific social situation in my home state… for those here for sports, simply skip the next paragraph. I have lived and grown up in Missouri for most of my life.  I feel it necessary for at least a brief Read more »

Only because he lifted me

Only because he lifted me

Several weeks ago I woke up on the third morning of a weeklong camping trip with a local Boyscout troop, hungry mosquitos desperately trying to drain energy from me. I had made it through another evening and wasn’t feeling badly at all. In fact, it was as if I had caught my second wind after a long exercise regimen. I stretched my achy back and reached for the toothbrush and my eyeglasses both tucked safely in my carry pouch. The boys outside my tent had already started to stir and I realized they had to be enjoying a ten to Read more »

I’m baaaccckkk, and so is the NFL!

I’m baaaccckkk, and so is the NFL!

Well, like most sports officials sometimes I am no where to be found when you are looking for someone to make the call.  But unlike other so-called Refs; I penalize myself appropriately.  So, having served my Delay of Life penalty I can proudly say I’m back.  Great timing to be back too, because of course there is one question on everyone’s mind: (Please ignore the fact that Hank Jr. is a complete ass hat, but his voice is really the only one I hear when I ask that question in my mind). So… Are you ready for some football?  Well Read more »

Green Grass and Bright Lights – Lucrémo Episode 4: You can’t predict the future.

Green Grass and Bright Lights – Lucrémo Episode 4: You can’t predict the future.

Jan. 9, 2014 So I got a call today from my agent. Apparently you wonderful people have been blowing his phone up and calling Exeter when we aren’t playing to make sure they don’t sell me. I love it. Really I do. And this season is going to keep being magical I promise. But trust in the owners, trust in the managers, Trust in the Fraternal Order or Fly Fellas to keep pushing harder and harder to get you the big wins. And don’t worry about the potential moves now or in the summer. I wanted to make a fan’s Read more »
